The about 80 kilometres long St. Gallen Rhine Valley, commonly known as Rheintal, is the section of the Alpine Rhine River Valley between Sargans and Lake Constance. The Rhine river forms the border between the canton of St. Gallen of Switzerland to the west and the Principality of Liechtenstein and Austria to the east.
