Äugsten liegt rund 1000 Meter über der Stadt Glarus. Erreichbar ist Äugsten mit einer kleinen Seilbahn, der „Äugstenbahn“. Sie ist nur 1.59 Kilometer lang, steigt aber sehr steil von Ennenda bei Glarus hinauf bis zum Bärenboden auf 1446m. Im Jahr 2010 wurde die neue Seilbahnanlage eröffnet und am höchsten Punkt befindet sich die kleine Gondel für 8 Passagiere 700 Meter hoch über dem Boden. Das obige Bild zeigt ein Panorama von oberhalb der Wildhüterhütte, diese ist etwa 150 Meter oberhalb der Bergstation der Äugstenbahn gelegen.
