The massif of Vanil Noir is limited in the south of the pays d' d'Enhaut, in the west by the Haute-Gruyère, in the north of the Jaunbach valley and to the east by the upper Valley Gros Mont. From the highest point of the Vanil Noir (2'389 m, a grassy summit, three narrow and segmental rocky mountain ridges run out: the first to north and north-east, which leads to the summits of the Dent de Folliéran and Dent de Brenleire, the second to the east to Tour de Dorénaz (2'260 m above sea level) and Dent of the Bimis (2'161 m above sea level) and the third to the south-west to the next almost equally high peaks Vanil de l' Ecri and Pointe de Paray (both 2'375 m ü. M.).

It seems, that the stamp shows a view from the north-west towards the Dent de Brenleire 2‘353 m & Dent de Folliéran 2'340 m.

 

Switzerland 2009, Chateau Gruyere.
The stamp was issued in the minituresheet "Stamp Day 2009 — Bulle".

The stamp shows a crane (the Coat of Arms of Gruyères) and Chateau Gruyere with summits of the Vanil Noir massif in the background. The main summit of the massif (2'389 m) is not visible, it is at the left of Vanil de l'Ecri.

The miniaturesheet depicts the 118-metre high Gibloux Radio Tower on Mont Gibloux (1'204 m) , which can be ascended via a spiral staircase. The 37-metre high viewing platform affords views far and wide over the Gruyère region and beyond to the Alps and the Jura Mountains.  

The left stamp depicts the "Viaduc du Lac de Gruyère" (2043.75 m length and 23.70 m width) of the A12 motorway. The viaduct was built in the 1970s and crosses a first inlet of the lake at a height of aproximately 70 m and extends across country at a height of 5 to 35 m to cross a second inlet at a height of aproximately 80 m.

The background and the illustration show the Dent de Brenleire 2‘353 m & Dent de Folliéran 2'340 m of the Massif du Vanil Noir. The ridge at the right is formed by the Dent de Broc 1'829 m, overlapped by the main summit Vanil Noir (2'389 m) and Vanil de l Ecri (3'375 m).
