The almost uninhabited Isla del Coco with an area of approximately 24 km² is located 550 km off the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. The Parque Nacional Isla del Coco is known as the crown jewel of Costa Rica’s national parks. The island was formed during a volcanic activity abou two-and-a-half million years ago. The highest elevation on the island is the Cerro Iglesias, at 637 metres.
