The Sekita Mountains are extending from Nagano Prefecture (Mount Mandarao 1'382 m) to Niigata Prefecture (Amamizu-yama). Along the mountain range there is a hiking trail, known as the Shin-etsu Trail. Travelers need five days walking the full distance of the "Shin-etsu Trail".
The Sekita Mountains are well known for its virgin beech forests and marshlands.
