The Hotaka-dake at 3'190 m is the highest mountain of the Hida Mountains (Northern Alps) in the Japanese Alps within the Chubu-Sangaku National Park. The mountain is after the Mt. Fuji (3'776 m) and the Kita-dake (3'193 m) in the Akaishi Mountains (Southern Alps) the third highest summit in Japan.

The mountain has several summits, the highest is known as Okuho-dake, 3'190 m.

Other summits are Karasawa-dake (3'110 m), Kitahotaka-dake (3'106 m), Maehotaka-dake (3'090 m), Myōjin-dake (2'931 m), Nishihotaka-dake (2'908 m), Ainodake (2'907 m) and Gamada-Fuji (2'742 m).

The Hotaka-dake is one of the 100 famous Japanese mountains.
