The Hida Mountains (Northern Alps) is a mountain range which stretches through the Nagano, Toyama and Gifu Prefectures. A small part of the range reach also into the Niigata Prefecture.

All major peaks of the Hida Mountains are within the Chubu-Sangaku Nationalpark.

The Hida Mountains (Northern Alps) form with the Kiso Mountains (Central Alps) and the Akaishi Mountains (Southern Alps) the Japanese Alps.

Habuka is the name of a valley with seven winter sport resorts in the heart of the Hida Mountains (Northern Alps).

The stamps were issued in the series "Flowers in Shinshū".
Shinshū was an old province of Japan that is nowadays Nagano Prefecture.
