Hachijo-jima is a small volcanic island (administered by Tokyo) and situated in the Pacific Ocean.

The Hachijo-Nishiyama 701 m (means the west mountain) is an active composite volcano next to another Pleistocene composite volcano Higashiyama 854 m (meaning the east mountain).  

Hachijo-jima is the southernmost of the Izu Seven Islands and within the boundaries of the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park
