The Mount Gassan is with Haguro-san (414 m) and Yudono-san (1'500 m) one of the three sacred mountains of Dewa (Dewa-Sanzan). The Mount Gassan is part of the Bandai-Asahi Nationalpark and one of the 100 famous Japanese mountains.
The stamp was issued perforated in sheets of 20 stamps and imperforated in the souvenirsheet "Bandai-Asashi Nationalpark".
