Námafjall is situated in the northeast of Lake Myvatn. The geothermal area, with boiling mudpools and steaming fumaroles, is named Hverir (Hverarond). It is situated east of Mt. Namafjall on the Námaskarð pass. It is one of the largest sulphur spring areas in Iceland. Namarfjall is an active volcano and belongs to the Krafla volcano system.
