There are three volcanoes with the name Snaefell in Iceland. The Snæfellsjökull (1’446 m) with its big glacier on top lies to the west of the island. The higher of the other two volcanoes by the name Snaefell (1’883 m) is situated in the north-east of Vatnajökull. A less well-known mountain of 1’383 m is located to the south-east of the Vatnajökull near the glacier Jökulsàrlón (any stamp existing).
Snæfell, towering to 1,833 m, is the highest mountain in Iceland outside the glacier regions. It is located near Höfn north-east of Vatnajökull.
Iceland 2002, Snæfell.
The stamp was issued in honour of the "International Year of Mountains".
