The Drangafjall mountain ridge ist located between the valleys Öxnadalur and Hörgárdalur. Hraundrangi at 1'075 metres is its highest point. For many years people thought it was impossible to climb, but on August 5th 1956 two Icelanders (Finnur Eyjólfsson & Sigurður Waage) and and an American (Nicholas Clinch) reached the summit.

Jónas Hallgrímsson (1807 – 1845) was an Icelandic poet, author and naturalist. He was born in the Öxnadalur valley.
