The Kerguelen Islands (Îles Kerguelen), is a group of islands in the southern Indian Ocean. It is one of the five districts of the French Southern Antarctic Lands (TAAF).
The main island, Grande Terre, (6,675 km2) is surrounded by further 300 smaller islands and islets, forming an archipelago.

The Mont Ross volcano (1'840 m) is the highest mountain on the Kerguelen Islands. It is situated on the main island of Grande Terre. The first ascent of the mountain was made in 1975 by Jean Afanassieff and Patrick Cordier.

The Arched Rock of Kerguelen is a about 300 metres tall stone, which had confounded navigators for centuries.
The upper rim of the arch collapsed around 1910, leaving only two giant pillars and a pile of stone rubble between them.
It is located in the extreme north of Grande Terre at 48°41'8.15"S 69°4'21.20"E.

Port Jeanne d'Arc is a former whaling station founded by a Norwegian whaling company in 1908. One of the buildings was restored in 1977, and another in 2007.

Ronarc'h Peninsula (Presqu'île Ronarc'h) is a peninsula in the south-east of the principal island Grande Terre of Kerguelen. It is connected by a narrow strip of land to another peninsula, the Jeanne d’Arc.

The Nuageuses Islands (Îles Nuageuses) are part of the Kerguelen archipelago and situated northwest of the main island Grande Terre. Its highest peaks are Pic de l’île de Croÿ (518 m) and Pic Charcot on Île du Roland (500 m).

The programme RENKER (Reindeer on Kerguelen Island) is operated by the Institut polaire Paul Emil Victor (IPEV) in collaboration with the National Nature Reserve and TAAF. The project aims to estimate the size of the Reindeer population, originally introduced in 1956, as well as its distribution on the mainland.
