The Tatacoa desert is situated between the cordilleras Central and Oriental in the northern part of the Huila department. It covers an area of 330 square kilometres.
It is one of Colombia's most attractive natural areas. The landscape eroded due to natural processes during millions of years. The desert has characteristic colours of ocher, gray and a little green of the cacti.
