The Nevado del Tolima is a stratovolcano and forms together with the volcanoes Nevado del Ruiz, Nevado del Quindio, Nevado del Cisne and Nevado de Santa Isabel the Parque nacional natural Los Nevados.

The stamp is showing a plane with wheels over the Magdalena River and the volcano Nevado de Tolima in the background.

The 4th issue have a slightly different design and are showing an airplane with floats instead of wheels over the Magdalena River.

 Inscription "Servicio de Transportes Aereos en Colombia".

(The 60¢ stamp is existing surcharched 30¢, the 20¢ and 30¢ stamps are existing overprinted "Goodwill flight of Lt. Benjamin Mendez from New York to Bogota")  

 

 

 

4th SCADTA Issue, Overprinted

1923/1928, fourth SCADTA Issue, overprinted with large letter.

 SCADTA Airmail stamps of the third and fourth issue were overprinted for sale in some countries outside Colombia. The agencies sold SCADTA stamps overprinted with large letter, the initials of the country of origin in Spanish. The issues were overprinted to prevent currency speculation.

The complete of the overprinted letters are: A=Germany, Austria and Czechoslovakia, A-U=Argentina-Uruquay, B=Belgium, Bo=Bolivia, Br=Brazil, C=Cuba, Ca=Canada, Ch=Chile, CR=Costa Rica, D=Denmark, E=Spain, EU=United States, F=France, G.B.=Great Britain, H=Netherlands or Netherlands Antilles, I=Italy, P=Panama and Canal Zone, Pe=Peru, S=Switzerland and Liechtenstein, Su=Sweden, V=Venezuela.

All stamps of the fifth issue are existing overprinted "CORREO AEREO" as well.

Ibagué is the capital of the Colombian department of Tolima. The Coat of Arms of Ibagué represents the Rio Combeima and the Nevado del Tolima.

The stamp was issued in the series "Departementos de Colombia · Tolima".

It seems, that the old watercolor-painting of the year 1852 is showing a view of the Rio Magdalena, Ambalema and the Nevado del Tolima. Owner of the painting is the Biblioteca Nacional de Colombia in Bogota.
