El Peñón de Guatapé, also known as the Stone of Peñol, is an about 200 metres high monolithic formation and situated at the town and municipality of Guatapé in the department of Antioquia. In one of its rock breaks, there was constructed a 740-steep stairway to its top, where there is a view platform. The area near the stone and even the old town were flooded by the construction of a large dam.
In the 1940s, the Colombian government declared it as "National Monument".
