The Santiago island with a surface area of 991 km² is the largest island of the Cape Verde archipelago. The highest mountains are the Pico da Antónia (1'394 m) of the Serra do Pico de Antónia in the southern part and the Serra da Malagueta (1'064 m) in the northern part of the island.
