Santo Antão covers an area of 779 km² and is after the Santiago island the second largest island of the Cape Verde archipelago. The Tope de Coroa (1'797 m) is the islands highest peak and after the Fogo volcano (2'829 m) the second highest on the arcipelago. Other notable peaks on Santo Antão are the Pico da Cruz (1'814 m), Monte Lajes (1'811 m), Queimado (1'521 m), Cidrão (1'548 m) and Espadana (1'513 m).
