The Fogo island is formed by the active Fogo volcano which is reaching a height of 2'829 m. The island is nearly round of about 25 kilometres in diameter. The volcanic cone of Fogo rises from a sort of plateau at an elevation of about 1'800 metres and about 8 km in diameter, called Chã das Caldeiras.
