The Shipka Pass connects the cities of Gabrovo and Kazanlak and is part of the Bulgarka Nature Park.
It is a pilgrimage place for Bulgarians, because it is a place of the victory battle among the Russian Army and Bulgarian volunteers against the Osman Army in the year 1877. The victory in this battle brought to Bulgarians a release from an Osman occupation. On the mountain pass there is the 31.5 metres high Shipka Memorial, in the form of a truncated pyramid.
Bulgaria 1921, Shipka Pass and the Shipka Memorial Church.
Bulgaria 1940, Plane over Shipka Pass and Shipka Memorial.
