Bolivia 1989 Uyuni stamp

Bolivia 1989, Uyuni.
The town of Uyuni is the gateway for tourists visiting the Salar de Uyuni.

Depicted is the clock tower along Avenida Potosi in the town of Uyuni (3'670 m) and an old locomotive. Three kilometres outside of Uyuni is an antique train cemetery. When the mining industry collapsed here in the 1940s, many trains were abandoned and they still stay here and forming this mass train cemetery. The train cars and locomotives, many of them dating back to the early 20th century, are now rusted and eroded by the salt winds blowing over Uyuni.
