The Cerro Chacaltaya is located about 18 kilometres in the north of La Paz. The Chacaltaya glacier, which was famous for Bolivia's only ski area, disappeard completely since 2009. The mountain is accessible by a gravel road, which ends at 5'300 metres and then its a 300m walk up to the summit. The summit offers spectacular views of La Paz, Illimani, Mururata and the Huayna Potosi, which is about 7 kilometres in the north.
