The Lemaire Channel is situated between Kiev Peninsula and the Booth Island. The strait is about 11 kilometres long and at its narrowest point 1'600 metres wide.

The stamp is showing a view towards the northern entrance of Lemaire Channel.
The summits are known as Cape Renard Towers.   The stamp was issued in the series "25 years of continuous scientific work in the Antarctic".
